Couples Therapy

Couples often seek out Couples Therapy when there has been consistent conflict or a trust rupture in the relationship. However, it is also becoming increasingly common for folks in relationships to seek out therapy as a way of prioritizing their relationship health before any conflict arises.

One way of easing into this is through the Relationship Wellness Check-In, which can help couples identify potential challenges in the relationship. Precommitment therapy like moving in with one another, getting married, or having children is also a positive way to feel confident through these life transitions.

When working with couples, I guide them through skill-building exercises to improve communication and intimacy. I also provide resources to practice at home between sessions, so that we can maintain the momentum necessary to create long-lasting positive change in the relational dynamic.

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a specialized form of therapy designed to address a wide range of sexual health concerns for individuals and to improve intimacy in relationships. Common areas that come up in Sex Therapy include sexual/gender identity exploration, relational desire discrepancy, low libido, treating various forms of sexual dysfunction (premature ejaculation, performance anxiety, difficulty with orgasm, sexual pain, etc.), sexual self-exploration, kink-exploration, and overcoming sexual trauma.

Clients often ask me what the difference is between sex and relationship therapy, and the answer is that they often go hand in hand. Sexual health and relational health are interconnected, so it’s common for one to include the other. However, Sex Therapy can also provide targeted therapy to address a specific issue related to sexual dysfunction or sexual shame.

Cancer-Support Therapy

I was diagnosed with bone cancer, osteosarcoma, at 19 years old and received chemotherapy treatment for one year before going into remission. Over a decade later, I am still coping with the aftermath of this experience. For many, cancer-specific support continues to be helpful or needed many years into remission.

I specialize in providing cancer-related individual, relationship, and sex therapy for folks and their loved ones who have been impacted by it. The sexual and relational impact of cancer often isn’t discussed in our culture, but can be devastating for those experiencing it. I am here to help.

ENM Relationship Therapy

Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM) therapy is a form of relationship therapy which helps folks who are either already in a non-monogamous relationship structure or who are seeking to transition into one. ENM Therapy is very similar to Couples Therapy in the communication skills and intimacy building that it provides while more specifically applying these skills to common ENM challenges.

In my sessions with ENM relationships, I emphasize the importance of open, vulnerable communication and of discussing healthy boundaries. I also work with folks to understand the ways in which our sociocultural upbringing can impact our views on relationship dynamics and utilize Narrative Therapy techniques to help clients discover what they are uniquely looking for in their relationships.

Adult Family Therapy

Adult family therapy provides a safe space for adult children to foster healthier family dynamics and boundaries with family members. Often, this type of therapy can be extremely helpful to mend old emotional wounds in family relationships.

Common family therapy clients that I see are parents and adult children reestablishing contact after a period of not communicating and adult children setting boundaries, building communication skills, and expressing their feelings with parents as they heal childhood emotional trauma. However, family therapy is not limited to parent-child relationships. Siblings, extended family, and chosen family all can benefit from family therapy.

Individual Therapy

My work with individuals utilizes many of the same tools that I incorporate in relationship therapy. This is because I was trained in using a systemic approach to therapy that emphasizes the importance of considering every person’s unique struggles within the context of their relationships and larger social systems. I believe that our relationships shape us into the people we are today and impact the way that we navigate our lives. I tailor my approach to every individual I work with by considering their unique goals and needs.

Common areas that I work with individuals to address include anxiety management, ADHD skill building, childhood emotional trauma, setting boundaries, navigating life transitions, and fostering self-love.
